This document helps design the MSP430 into a system requiring a very low-input
voltage range and is concerned about maintaining high efficiency and long battery life.
This particular design allows for an input voltage between 0.7 V and 3.3 V.
· 0.7 V to 3.3 V input voltage range
· Fixed 3.3-V output eliminates need for external voltage-setting resistors
· TPS61221 is capable of driving up to 200 mA
· High efficiency (up to 92%)
· Low-quiescent current (less than 5.5 mA)
· Tiny SC-70 package
This reference design describes a power option for MSP430 devices and accounts for voltage and current,requirements given below. The MSP430 devices require only a single 3.3-V input, so no sequencing is required. The operating input voltage for this reference design is between 0.7 V and 3.3 V. This design is optimized for very-low input voltage range and small design and low component count.
